Leviathan’s ax is infused with ice elemental magic. He also has a shield which was called the Guardian Shield in the previous game. Kratos’ main weapons are a magical battle ax called the Leviathan Axe, and his double-chained swords, the Blade of Chaos. The player controls the character Kratos through a combination of combat and puzzle gameplay elements. While traveling through the different kingdoms, players travel by boat over water and navigate through snow-covered terrain on sleds pulled by dogs pulled by wolves.
Players can also explore the nine realms of Norse mythology The previous game allowed players to access six realms, leaving Asgard, Vanaheim, and Svartalfheim inaccessible. Throughout the game, players fight Norse mythological enemies with more enemy types than in the previous game, and the developers also added more mini-bosses to add variety to the game. The God of War reboot back in 2018 provided a touching and grounded tale, and that speaks volumes for a franchise that has predominantly occupied itself with violence and gore.
